Melanie Flores

Writer and Poet

Melanie Flores is a Canadian writer and poet whose work has appeared in numerous anthologies and literary journals. She has won awards for her poetry and short prose. Most recently she was awarded 1st place in Polar Expressions 2020 Short Prose Contest for "Dandelion Smiles" and an honorable mention for "Waiting" in Polar Expressions 2020 Poetry Contest.  Her work has been described as moving and provocative. Melanie is a member of the League of Canadian Poets and a founding member of the Canadian Freelance Guild. Read on to find samples of her work, a brief bio, and more.

Story of Melanie Flores

Background Story

Introduced to poetry in kindergarten, she quickly became the school poetry reciter at her Canadian/Ukrainian elementary school. After a lengthy career as an Advertising Sales Manager in business publishing, Melanie moved on to focus on her own writing, producing over a hundred pieces (poems, short stories, novella) over several years. Melanie also works as an editor/proofreader/reader and audiobook narrator through her company MDF Communication Services Inc.
